About the band:
Project Winterhaven are a tight Folk-Funk, Rock 3
piece with the ability to take you from an intimate acoustic feel to a
high energy big stage performance within the space of a set.
‘Its rare in this mess with all our scheduled stress’ that we can see
passion and honesty served up without the layers of protection found in
so much of the music we are sold. The brother /sister combo of Joe and
Julia Parker along with childhood friend Chuby Winterhaven have found
that passion and it shines through in the energy that pours out of their
Songs that reflect both their beach side upbringing , growing up on the
sunny shores of the Gold Coast Australia, and their city street adaptations.
PWH’s dedication in recent years has taken their show from middle America
to the middle east and has found the riff hungry rock youth and the lyrically
aware balladeers standing side by side.
Julz
Info
Over the last couple of years Julz has been
gaining more and more attention for her singing
and songwriting, but when it all began there was
'the guitarist'. Julz has been playing guitar
since she was seven and a half. Before that,
between the ages of three and five she played
the violin. After a few years of guitar playing
Julia started to take it very seriously. Thanks
to a year of homeschooling (8 hour practice days)
and lessons from guitar great Terry
Murray she started to get pretty good. After
the family relocated to the
Gold Coast in Queensland, Julia started going
along to local Jam Nights with her father Greg.
Here she would perform mainly guitar
instrumentals and jam with whoever needed a
guitar player. When she was thirteen Julia was
fortunate enough to be given the opportunity
to tour around Northern NSW with a great band
of the time,"Donna and the Moderation". As well
as being a great life experience, this travel
helped Julia gain some media attention, and a
reputation as a player to look out for.
After playing with a few different bands,
Julia started playing with prominant Gold Coast
Duo "Double Shuffle". Their busy schedule enabled
Julz to gain a huge amount of gigging time,
averaging 3 - 5 gigs per week.
It was around this time (age 15), that Julia was
invited to play second guitar for her hero
"Phil Emmanuel", who was putting a band together.
It was through this band that she met Simon and Wazza
of the London Music Group. After a few years of
playing with Double Shuffle and her first original
band "Trip to Birdland", Julz met up with Simon and
Wazza again and started playing with them in all
sorts of combinations.
After doing a heap of
freelance guitar work, including gigs with Brian
Cadd, Bart Willoughby and Col Elliot to name a few,
Julia was asked to perform at Bigfest 2000
(the Brisbane International Guitar Festival).
After watching her brother Joe and Clint (Chubs) carving
it up (as well as writing some very sweet tunes)
in Bu-Twang, Julz made the easy decision of who would make up
the rhythm section for the job. Julz asked
the boys if they would perform with her at Bigfest,
the ensuing jams produced a hell of a lot of fun,
and a bunch of 'out there' tunes. That was the
birth of Project Winterhaven.
Equipment
Julz plays Maton acoustics - 225 Custom
Delux. The electric guitar of choice varys between
her trusty White Strat Plus, Her Berketa Edge and
a Tele style Guitar with EMG's which was handbuilt
by Greg Furnell. Julz uses a simple setup of pedals,
a Jeckl and Hyde (or tube screamer or Boss OD1 and
OD2, Boss DD3 and a cry baby wah into either a red
knob Twin or an old Musicman HD212. She plays
11 - 48's on electric and 12 - 56's on Acoustic.
Joe
Info
Joe was very musical from a young age and between
the ages of about 8 and 12 showed great promise
as a guitar player. Unfortunately, for Joe's guitar
playing, he caught the 'bass bug' during high school.
After playing in Bu-Twang as well as jamming with
different musicians in the area Joe, and his uncanny
ability to create cool riffs, became an integeral
part of Winterhaven and the band's sound. Joe's
musical maturity has been described as 'frightening in
someone so young'. He just has an amazing ability to
play the perfect line for the song, and make it
sound great everytime.

Chubs
Info
Chubs started his musical career from the age of 8,thanks
to guitar lessons from primary school music teacher Rick
Hay. After teaching Chubs all he could, Rick handed Chubs
over to ..... to continue on.
During high school, Joe and Chubs (still both guitar players)
became good friends and wanted to form a band. However with
an excess of guitarists and not enough bassists or drummers,
Chubs swapped over to drums. It was then that Bu-Twang was
formed. The band were together for about a year before their
guitartist Andrew Done relocated to London.
During this inbetween period, Chubs dabbled with a few
different bands, one which included Julz. It was then a
nutural progression to form PWH as it was around this time
that Julz was looking for a rythym section to play with
her at Bigfest.
